Knight Plumbing and Heating: 4 Years in the plumbing business
It has been four years since Knight Plumbing and Heating LTD started up. In this time we have grown to be a recognised plumbing business in the Sussex area with clients from Eastbourne across to Chichester and up to Redhill with all areas in-between. Our growth has increased every year by taking on more clients and larger jobs whilst still managing small call-outs for domestic customers. We have been maintaining a block of 139 flats on the Brighton seafront for just over 3 years with an ongoing contract and also 3 commercial units in Lewes. This can include anything from general plumbing maintenance and repairs to larger projects.
Our work includes anything from tap replacements to larger sites with designing and managing the project. We have now completed 2 large housing projects for a developer in Roedean and Hove with talks of more to start. Also converting an Edwardian mansion into a wedding venue with guest suites and ensuite bathrooms in Havant.
Background in plumbing
My background was in commercial heating working for a number of large companies since leaving school where I joined to become an apprentice. I studied plumbing and heating at Brighton college for four years then sat my gas assessments to become a domestic and commercial GasSafe registered engineer, or CORGI as it was called back then.
Working for different companies and working with varied engineers has helped with my own business venture as I can use the good and bad points that I have learnt to manage my own company. I think I have exceeded my own expectations, as starting up a business can be quite intimidating at the beginning but I was willing to give it my all.
I have enjoyed the satisfaction that comes with running a business and pleased that I eventually took the jump to go on my own. Research shows the first 3 years of business are the toughest as it takes time to become established. Also with the uncertainty of 2020 it has become an achievement to keep growing year on year. With the help of close family and friends it has made it achievable to reach my goal.
We are now working closely to start installing renewable energy systems as this is something I take an interest in. With the introduction of heat pumps and now hydrogen boilers we can help reduce the carbon footprint.
